Geometric Aspects of Gravity

This special issue aims to celebrate and advance the profound geometric foundations of General Relativity (GR) and its extensions, countering the view that geometrisation is merely incidental or that GR is incomplete due to energy localization concerns. We contend that geometry lies at the very heart of gravitational physics, and we invite contributions that explore the rich mathematical structures underpinning both standard and modified theories.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Geometric formulations of modified gravity (e.g., metric-affine, tele-parallel, and higher-curvature theories)
  • Covariant approaches to energy-momentum in curved space times
  • Foundational challenges arising from the geometric nature of gravity, such as the absence of absolute frames, dynamical causal structure, and the problem of time

We particularly welcome papers addressing the interplay between geometry and quantum gravity, focusing not merely on technical hurdles but on conceptual issues like fluctuating metrics and loss of fixed light cones. By highlighting the enduring geometric spirit of GR, this issue seeks to foster new dialogue between classical geometers, modified gravity researchers, and quantum gravity theorists.

Submission and Fee Policy

This special issue will accept open submissions with a fee of 300 GBP, as well as invited contributions. Selected invited submissions may be offered a discount or full fee waiver based on the recommendation of the Lead Guest Editor.
